How to cut Scotia corners?
To get a perfect finish when cutting scotia corners, follow these easy steps:
- Measure the angle: Check the angle of your corner (usually 90°) to ensure accurate cuts.
- Set your mitre saw: Adjust your mitre saw to 45° for internal or external corners.
- Make the cuts: cut both pieces of scotia at the same angle to ensure a seamless fit.
- Dry fit the pieces: Before securing, place the pieces together to check if they meet neatly in the corner.
- Fix the moulding: once satisfied with the fit, apply adhesive or nails to hold the moulding in place, and ensure it's aligned properly.
Should Scotia match the floor or skirting?
It’s usually best to match scotia moulding to the colour of your skirting boards for a cohesive look. This ensures a smooth, uniform transition between the wall and the floor. However, if you want a bolder or more modern design, you can choose to match the scotia to your flooring, especially with dark or contrasting floors. Ultimately, it’s about your style preference and the overall look you want to create in the room.
What is Scotia moulding?
Scotia moulding is a type of trim used to cover the expansion gap between your floor and the wall or skirting board. This gap is essential for allowing your flooring to expand and contract naturally. Scotia moulding offers a neat, professional finish, hiding this gap while giving your room a clean, polished look.
What is Scotia trim used for?
Scotia trim is used to cover the expansion gap between your floor and the wall or skirting board. This expansion gap allows the flooring to expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity. Scotia trim not only helps to keep dirt and moisture out but also adds a finishing touch that enhances the overall appearance of your room.

Solid Hardwood Flooring
For some, there's nothing quite so authentic as a solid natural block or plank floor. Our solid timber floors are a statement of quality, which goes back to Atkinson & Kirby's roots in 1903. Whilst the format is steeped in tradition, the character you can give a space with solid wood is as varied as the tonal richness of wood itself.
