  • Prime grade is given to our clearest boards that contain only a small amount of colour variance and knots. Prime grade floors are a good choice when you want a minimal and uniform look.
  • Select grade has the occasional smaller knot and colour variance. Select grade floors are the ideal choice when you want a minimal look, but are looking for a bit of natural character to break up the floor.
  • Natural grade floors fall between prime and rustic; they contain plenty of character and natural variances, but the size of knots and splits will not be as prominent as they are in rustic boards.
  • Rustic offer beautiful character and variation that showcase the beauty of natural hardwoods. Splits, knots and interesting colour variations blend together to produce a finished floor full of charm and personality.
  • Super rustic grade is given to our most characterful boards, with large knots and splits being a prominent feature of the floor. They may be sanded or finished to accentuate the appearance and create a floor full of character and natural variation.

Fumed or smoked oak flooring has been treated in an enclosed environment, which produces the characteristic variation of smoked floors. Not every tree, or even every board contains the same quantity of tannic acid, therefore, the colour and appearance can vary significantly from board to board and throughout the finished floor. What is this for?
We recommend including wastage in all our estimates to make sure you’ve got enough flooring to cover your project comfortably. Extra wood helps if you need to cut to fit around joists or corners. About 5% is usually enough, but 10% gives you even more room for error.

Heritage

The Heritage collection is engineered for timeless design and the ultimate long-lasting flooring option. This collection features an extra-thick 6mm Oak wear layer, which is crucial for high-traffic environments to stand the test of time, allowing the floor to be sanded and re-sealed for decades to come.

The collection is defined by its two iconic parquet patterns: the classic herringbone engineered wood floor and elegant chevron parquet flooring. These are available in a variety of dark and light shades, allowing you to achieve a timeless look in spaces like hotel lobbies, upscale dining room settings, or traditional living room spaces

Key to the Heritage collections appeal is the Fusion Hybrid surface finish, a unique technology that acts as the best of both worlds with the natural visual appeal of oil-wax and the durability of lacquer. This delivers the refined matte finish on hardwood floors while ensuring exceptional performance. This finish makes it one of the lowest maintenance hardwood floors available and one of the best hardwood flooring options for high traffic areas, such as busy hallways or office spaces. This collection defines luxury flooring.

Heritage FAQs

How thick should engineered wood flooring be?

The total thickness of engineered wood flooring can vary from 10mm to 22mm. For residential use, a 3mm to 4mm wear layer is standard. For high-traffic areas and maximum durability, floors like the Heritage Collection offer a very thick 6mm wear layer, which is considered premium, long-lasting and an investment by holding it's value over time.

How to lay engineered herringbone flooring?

Laying engineered herringbone flooring requires careful planning. The key steps involve:

  1. Establishing a Guideline: Finding the exact centre line of the room.
  2. Laying the Starter Rows: Installing a starter piece or "spine" on the guideline, usually centred.
  3. Interlocking the Blocks: Laying the blocks in the "V" pattern, interlocking the tongue and groove, typically using a high-quality wood adhesive.
  4. Cutting the Perimeter: Cutting the blocks that meet the walls and trimming the last row.

We recommend that this be carried out by a professional to ensure the pattern is perfectly aligned.

Is herringbone engineered wood floor suitable for high-traffic areas?

Yes, the herringbone engineered wood floor format in the Heritage collection is designed for demanding, high-traffic environments. With its 6mm wear layer, it is one of the most durable hardwood floors available, ideal for commercial areas.

What is parquet flooring?

Parquet flooring is a type of hardwood flooring made up of small wooden blocks or strips arranged in geometric patterns, usually at a 90-degree angle to create a V-shape.

Parquet, sometimes also known as herringbone flooring, creates a distinctive, elegant look and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of a space. It can be made from a variety of wood species and finished to suit different styles and preferences.

What is the best flooring for high traffic areas?

The best flooring for high traffic areas must be resistant to abrasion and impact. Durable engineered wood flooring, like the 20mm Heritage Collection with its 6mm wear layer and Fusion Hybrid finish, is an excellent choice.

What is the best low maintenance flooring?

The best low-maintenance flooring options are those with highly durable surface finishes with high resistance to reactive compounds found in common spillages.

What is the difference between an oil and lacquer wood floor finish?

Oil penetrates the wood, while lacquer forms a protective surface layer. The Heritage collection features our Fusion Hybrid finish, which blends the two, offering the deep, matte aesthetic of an oiled wooden floor with the enhanced protection and durability of a lacquered wooden floor.

What is the most durable type of wood flooring?

The most durable wood flooring is generally engineered wood flooring with a thick wear layer and a robust finish.

What makes a hardwood floor long lasting?

A hardwood floor can be considered long lasting due to a combination of material quality, construction, finish, installation and maintenance. When a wood floor uses high quality materials, robust construction, a thick wear layer and a durable finish like the Hertiage Collection, it is considered a long-lasting due the ability to holding value for decades, in both commercial and residential environments.
