Grade
Tooltip
  • Prime grade is given to our clearest boards that contain only a small amount of colour variance and knots. Prime grade floors are a good choice when you want a minimal and uniform look.
  • Select grade has the occasional smaller knot and colour variance. Select grade floors are the ideal choice when you want a minimal look, but are looking for a bit of natural character to break up the floor.
  • Natural grade floors fall between prime and rustic; they contain plenty of character and natural variances, but the size of knots and splits will not be as prominent as they are in rustic boards.
  • Rustic offer beautiful character and variation that showcase the beauty of natural hardwoods. Splits, knots and interesting colour variations blend together to produce a finished floor full of charm and personality.
  • Super rustic grade is given to our most characterful boards, with large knots and splits being a prominent feature of the floor. They may be sanded or finished to accentuate the appearance and create a floor full of character and natural variation.

What is this for?
We recommend including wastage in all our estimates to make sure you’ve got enough flooring to cover your project comfortably. Extra wood helps if you need to cut to fit around joists or corners. About 5% is usually enough, but 10% gives you even more room for error.

Timeworn

The Timeworn collection provides a range of multi-layered wood flooring products that focus on authentic, deep texture. The collection features rich hues, which are achieved through smoked oak flooring techniques which penetrate the wood for a lasting, natural depth of dark colour that is present throughout the whole floor and can be retained with each refinish. This process, combined with the heavy brushing and distressed techniques, results in a true weathered oak floor aesthetic that adds immediate character to any space.

Timeworn is the perfect collection for embracing a wabi-sabi interior design, which celebrates imperfection and the beauty of age. The distressed wood flooring in the Timeworn collection makes it inherently forgiving and practical for busy areas like the kitchen or living room great option for flooring for pets and busy families. The range also provides a great foundational aesthetic for character-filled spaces, such as a basement conversion. The palette of dark and earthy tones makes it an excellent base for dark cottagecore interior design or traditional farmhouse flooring ideas. The range is also versatile enough to work as an industrial flooring option when paired with metal and raw textures.

Timeworn FAQs

How does the Timeworn collection relate to wabi-sabi interior design?

The Timeworn collection embodies wabi-sabi interior design by celebrating natural imperfections. The distressed wood flooring and natural smoked oak flooring tones provide an organic, imperfect base that promotes a sense of history and authenticity - core principles of the wabi-sabi aesthetic.

Is cottagecore still popular?

Yes, cottagecore remains a popular interior design aesthetic. It romanticises rural, traditional country life, emphasising warmth, comfort, natural materials, and nostalgia.

What is smoked oak flooring?

Smoked oak flooring refers to wood that has undergone a chemical process to darken the colour, penetrating deep into the wood fibres. This creates the rich, variable brown tones and authentic weathered oak floor aesthetic seen in the Timeworn collection.

What is wabi sabi style?

Wabi-sabi style is a Japanese aesthetic philosophy that celebrates imperfection, impermanence, and authenticity.

What is weathered oak flooring?

Weathered oak flooring is wood that has been finished or treated to appear aged, rustic, and exposed to the elements.

Where are distressed wood floors best used?

Distressed wood flooring is excellent for adding immediate character and visual warmth. It is highly practical for high-traffic areas because existing marks blend in seamlessly with the texture.
