Engineered Hardwood Flooring FAQs

Does engineered wood feel like real wood?

Yes. The top layer of our engineered flooring is 100% natural hardwood, so it has the exact same texture, grain, and warmth as a solid plank once installed.

Does engineered wood flooring expand?

Yes, but much less than solid wood. Engineered hardwood has a stable multi layer construction, reducing expansion and contraction. However, it's still important to leave a small expansion gap around the edges of the room to accommodate natural movement.

Does engineered wood flooring scratch easily?

Engineered hardwood is durable but not scratch proof. Like all wood flooring, it can scratch from heavy furniture, pet claws, or sharp objects. Using rugs, furniture pads and regular cleaning will help protect it. Some finishes, like UV cured aluminum oxide coatings, offer extra scratch resistance.

How long does engineered wood flooring last?

With proper care, high quality engineered hardwood flooring can last 20 to 30 years or more. The lifespan depends on factors like the thickness of the wear layer, maintenance and traffic levels in your home.

How thick should engineered wood flooring be?

The total thickness of engineered wood flooring can vary from 10mm to 22mm. For residential use, a 3mm to 4mm wear layer is standard. For high-traffic areas and maximum durability, floors like the Heritage Collection offer a very thick 6mm wear layer, which is considered premium, long-lasting and an investment by holding it's value over time.

Is engineered wood flooring good for kitchens?

Yes, engineered wood flooring is ideal for kitchens. Its multi-layered construction provides excellent stability against moisture and temperature changes, making it durable and long-lasting in busy spaces.
