National Museum of Scotland
The floor at the National Museum of Scotland needed to be refurbished to allow for new interactive exhibits but the original flooring was to be kept. GL Floors enlisted the help of Atkinson & Kirby who jointly came up with a solution.
Atkinson & Kirby manufactured 300m2 of new Red Oak 76 x 20mm prime unfinished strip flooring specially matched to blend in with the original flooring, which was lifted, de-nailed and then re-laid. GL Floors then sanded all areas and finished in-situ with a tough Ultra matt lacquer to give a low reflection, easy to maintain surface.
This method allowed for a seamless finished result with no obvious breaks in the visual appearance.
GL floors’ Contractor Director, Jim Gardner, makes it clear the fantastic results would not have been possible without Atkinson & Kirby’s ability to source and manufacture floors to specification.
